Mr. Culbert is the coach for 2 UIL academic contests, Microcomputer Applications and Computer Science.
The Microcomputer Applications contest focuses on use of the Microsoft Office suite of programs, especially Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. It is a production contest where contestants produce two (sometimes three) files to demonstrate their knowledge of the software.
The Computer Science contest allows students to demonstrate their knowledge of the Java programming language. At the district level, there is only one component to the test--a mulitple choice test. At the regional and state levels, a programming component is added.
Canyon HS consistently has students advance beyond the district level in these contests! The following students have placed in district competition since Mr. Culbert began sponsoring these contests in 2000.
